How Much Tax Refund Does an RRSP Contribution Give You?

General information only. Not financial, tax or investment advice. This site is independent and is not the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Check canada.ca and your CRA My Account for your own figures. Short answer: There's no fixed refund. An RRSP deduction lowers your taxable income, so the tax saved depends on your marginal tax rate (federal plus provincial) and your other credits. We don't publish provincial rate tables because we haven't verified current ones.

Rough idea (made-up numbers)

Estimated tax effect ≈ deductible contribution × your marginal rate. | Deductible contribution | Marginal rate you enter | Estimated tax reduction | |---|---|---| | $5,000 | 20% | $1,000 | | $5,000 | 30% | $1,500 | | $5,000 | 40% | $2,000 |
