Rules used (CRA limits table, CRA excess contributions, checked 17 October 2026). Room = 18% of 2025 earned income, up to $33,810, minus your 2025 pension adjustment, plus unused room carried forward. A $2,000 cushion applies if you were 18 or older; above it, a tax of 1% a month applies to the excess.

Uncertain points
The 1 March 2027 deadline is our calculation (60th day of 2027). CRA pages read on 17 October 2026 show 2 March 2026 for the 2025 tax year. Re-check canada.ca from 1 January 2027. The countdown uses Toronto time and that expected date.
The 2026 limit of $33,810 is on CRA's table. Your own limit also depends on pension adjustment reversals, past unused contributions and other items this tool does not model. The estimated tax saving is only contribution × the rate you type; it ignores provincial rules, clawbacks and credits.
The over-contribution check is indicative: CRA counts contributions by month and the tax may be waived or cancelled in some cases. The 1% monthly figure is simply 1% of the excess above the cushion.
