RRSP Deadline 2027 in Canada: Key Dates to Know

General information only. Not financial, tax or investment advice. This site is independent and is not the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Check canada.ca and your CRA My Account for your own figures. Last checked against CRA pages: October 17, 2026. Examples use made-up numbers. No advertising or affiliate links appear on this page.

Date status: CRA pages we could read on October 17, 2026 still show the 2025-tax-year deadline (March 2, 2026). The March 1, 2027 deadline for the 2026 tax year is our own calculation (the 60th day of 2027), not yet confirmed by a CRA page. Re-check canada.ca on or after January 1, 2027.

Short answer: RRSP contributions made in 2026 and in the first 60 days of 2027 can generally be claimed on your 2026 return. Counting 60 days from January 1, 2027 gives Monday, March 1, 2027 (our calculation; January has 31 days and February 2027 has 28). CRA has not yet published that date on the pages we read.

What CRA pages say today

Other dates (2025-tax-year versions on CRA pages; 2026-year dates unconfirmed)

Item CRA page (2025 year) Expected for 2026 year
RRSP contribution deadline March 2, 2026 March 1, 2027 (unconfirmed)
Filing deadline April 30, 2026 April 30, 2027 (unconfirmed)
Filing, self-employed June 15, 2026 June 15, 2027 (unconfirmed)
Payment of balance owing April 30, 2026 April 30, 2027 (unconfirmed)
T1-OVP (excess contributions) file and pay "on or before March 31" March 31, 2027 (unconfirmed)

If you or your spouse or common-law partner is self-employed, CRA says the filing date is June 15 but the balance is still due April 30.

FHSA is different

For the FHSA, CRA's dates page says that for an account opened in 2025 you can claim contributions made by December 31, 2025 on your 2025 return. There is no 60-day grace period shown. So the expected FHSA cut-off for the 2026 deduction is December 31, 2026. See RRSP vs TFSA vs FHSA.

FAQ

If the 60th day falls on a weekend? It did in 2026 (Sunday), so the deadline moved to Monday, March 2. In 2027 the 60th day is a Monday.

Does my financial institution have an earlier cut-off? Possibly for processing; check with them.
